Option 2 hours: Discover Saigon Vestiges

We will start from the Opera House or your hotel in district 1 and ride pass the main city historical landmarks such as Reunification Palace, Ben Thanh market, City Hall, Rex Hotel, Notre Dame Cathedral and Post Office. Instead of stopping by the over-crowded yet being closed for reconstruction Notre Dame Cathedral, we will take you to Tan Dinh Church, a striking Gothic church in pink! Completed 4 years prior to its sister, the Notre Dame Cathedral, this church’s imposing exteriors combine Romanesque style with Gothic and Renaissance elements while hosting a richly-decorated Italian marble high altar on the inside.
We will also take you to Saigon river to witness Gustave Eiffel’s only surviving work in Vietnam, the rainbow bridge. With all false claims that Long Bien bridge and Central Post Office are built by Eiffel, this true lovely legacy by him does not get the reputation it deserves and only a few tourists are given a chance to visit this special spot. On this tour we truly want to show you places off the guide books.
Enjoy a drink at a local coffee shop like no other. This innocent looking shophouse is actually a hidden post office and shelter of Saigon rangers, who were responsible for Tet offensive in 1968, during which Viet Cong launched their attack upon 50 cities in South Vietnam. This place has two hidden mailboxes, one emergency exit and is built right next to a South Vietnam lieutenant general’s house. Yet only after the war did they found out the truth about it. Our tour ends at Jade Emperor Pagoda, a perfect example for eclecticism in Vietnam where multiple Gods and deities are worshiped together.

Option 3 hours: Half day Saigon cyclo tour

We will start from the Opera House or your hotel in district 1 and ride pass the city historical landmarks such as Reunification Palace, Ben Thanh market, City Hall, Rex Hotel. Instead of entering the Central post office like most tours, we will visit the rooftop of a secret building where 44 years ago, the last Huey helicopter was taking off with a few dozens of immigrants in the famous photo Fall of Saigon. Millions was fleeing from South Vietnam in 1975 as North Vietnamese forces closed in on Saigon in the largest helicopter evacuation of mankind history. It is a place where you cannot find or go by yourself, yet once you a up there, it offers you a spectacular view.
We will continue our ride to a small alleyway and have a short walk to see a maze of apartments and houses almost seem woven in webs of electric wires and streets, so tiny that only one scooter could fit at a time. You can have a close up view on local life and perhaps sample some treats on the way. In Xich Lo Tours, we want to show you what you cannot do on your own. We will walk to the flower market, the largest of its kind in Ho Chi Minh city then hop on our cyclo again to discover the bustling Cho Lon. We take you to unvail some most exotic markets in this China town. From scraps market to textile market to scooter market. It is a tradition for traders selling same things to stick together in one area. Seeing live chickens, fish, raw vegetables and fruits sold by the street will surely be a memorable take-away for you. Finally, we will bid farewell to our drivers at Binh Tay market, the largest whole sale market in Saigon.
For this tour, we recommend you book a guide with us for a better understanding of local lives.
